Vivace Chorale Kamloops has been in existence since the early 1990’s, but has had quite a few different iterations, primarily of mixed voices with and without orchestra. After a difficult few years for choirs due to Covid and the accompanying restrictions, particularly for voices, Vivace Chorale reinvented itself as a women’s voice choir in the fall of 2022.

Ellen McMillan, as the new director for VC, struck out a new path for the chorus with this change which has achieved great success in the past two years – growth in membership and audiences, and growth in sound and expertise. VC’s musical director aims at choosing repertoire that is interesting and entertaining both to sing and to listen to, while reflecting our societal concerns and challenges. This non-auditioned group strives to achieve excellence in each performance through their hard work and support of each other. We welcome you to this page and hope to see you at our next concert!

Notes from our Director

 

Welcome to Vivace Chorale Kamloops’ web site.  I am thrilled that you are here and interested in what we are up to these days.  VC has an exciting and busy year planned with singing retreats, workshops, community concerts and, of course, our seasonal concerts in January and May.   As always, we welcome new members at the beginning of each season, so if you are interested in singing in a supportive and fun women’s chorus, please do let me know.  We have singers of every description – solo voices, women who haven’t sung “since high school”, experienced choristers – and all ages.  We even have members of the same family.  How cool is it to sing with your daughter? 🥰  All are welcome – we’ll find a place for you.

 

This past year showed tremendous growth for Vivace Chorale,  in membership, audiences, and especially in creating beautiful music together.  We are incredibly pleased to be starting this season with even more voices joining us – forty and counting!

I have such fun coming up with repertoire for new seasons - checking out new works by my favourite women composers, digging into compositions by masters or the newly discovered, finding those pieces that excite and move me.  This fall, in preparation for our January concert “Begone, Winter!,” we’ll be working on pieces by Abbie Betinis, Clara Schumann, Ola Gjeilo,  Anna Vtipil, Ysaye Barnwell, and more.  We’ll explore the joys and tribulations of winter as well as the musical paintings of voice, flute and strings.  

Coming in the spring, Mother’s Day weekend (what a wonderful time!) is a celebration of “Love is Love is Love” along with the Kamloops Pride Choir under the direction of Heidi Muendel.   We look forward to rocking this theme with percussion, rhythm and, of course, song.
